VEN RICHEN SANGPO GESHE (Tibet), born in 1977, writer, poet and monk. In July 2006, he was arrested on his way back home from his monastery. Due to protests voiced by the International Writers-in-Prison Committee and its various media, he was released a month later, but Chinese police kept on following and menacing him. In April 2007, he was arrested again; he was hanged from his feet at Bharkham police station and transferred to Gyalrang police station where he was severely tortured and physically harmed by injections of an unknown substance into his legs. As a consequence, he was not able to walk after his release and has to rest in a lying position for days. He was arrested due to his critical writings, among them "The history of Lhasa". As he has to fear renewed arrest, he hides out in the countryside.
