VLADIMIR CHUGUNOV (Russia), journalist; in January 2007, he was arrested near Moscow on grounds of alleged “threats for life“ and was kept in custody for more than 5 months without charges being brought against him. He was transferred to and fro between prisons, hospitals and psychiatric institutions. A psychiatric disorder was not diagnosed.
In 2002, he received the Andrej Sacharow Prize for his years of reporting on human rights’ issues. In the same year, he was attacked and his right hand was broken to the words "There you are, writer! Now write, if you can!"
In the meantime Chugunov once more has been arrested and incarcerated in a psychiatic hospital.
