24.11.2017, 16 Uhr – Words in Chains – Reading and Discussion with the Author at Volkshochschule Landkreis Gießen
Audio book narrator Sven Görtz reads selected texts by persecuted authors and discusses political and social issues as well as the oppressive and life-threatening situation of those affected with Syrian Writers-in-Exile scholarship holder Yamen Hussein, PEN Vice President Sascha Feuchert, and District Administrator Anita Schneider.
Even before the arrest of German-Turkish journalist Deniz Yücel, this issue raised the pressing global question: How can we, who live in a state of law, lend help and support to these people? One answer reads: by ripping persecuted authors from anonymity and creating an audience for their writings. This, among the enjoyment of high-quality and appealing literature, is the central idea behind the reading and conversation with the author.
The admission is free. Please find further information on the website of the Volkshochschule Landkreis Gießen.
Organisation: Volkshochschule Landkreis Gießen, Gefangenes Wort e.V., and Sven Görtz with support of the German PEN Centre
